Program One: Overview of Leadership Resilience

Participants will develop a comprehensive understanding of the ‘big picture’ of leadership resilience. Sample topics include:

  • Completion of the statistically valid and reliable Leader Resilience Profile ® we developed, which results in the development of a resilience strengths profile of each participant
  • The resilience cycle and how to move through it in a healthy way
  • Three dimensions of leadership resilience skills: resilience thinking skills, resilience capacity building skills, and resilience action skills
  • The connection between leadership resilience and organizational resilience

Program Two: In Depth Examination of Resilience Thinking Skills

Participants will learn how to apply the thinking skills of a realistic optimist. Sample topics include:

  • How to effectively deal with the very real presence of ambiguity and complexity inherent in organizational life
  • How to find ways to act affirmatively to have a positive influence in making good things happen in a bad situation
  • How to focus your energy on the opportunities, not the obstacles, found in the midst of adversity
  • How to shift your thinking from ‘if only’ thinking to ‘how can I’ thinking when faced with tough times

Program Three: In Depth Examination of Resilience Capacity Building Skills

Participants will learn how to build additional resilience capacity in four areas: personal values, personal efficacy, personal well-being, and personal support base. Sample topics include:

  • How to consistently align your leadership actions with what matters most to you among competing values
  • How to build on your experiences with adversity to gain greater resilience capacity when adversity happens again
  • How to build the resources of a strong support base to help you through the tough times
  • How to protect the necessary time and space to replenish your capacity to lead an emotionally, physically, and spiritually rich life

Program Four: In Depth Examination of Resilience Action Skills

Participants will learn how to strengthen their leadership skills of adaptability, perseverance, courage, and personal accountability. A simulation of a real-life situation will be used to gain experience in leading in the heat of a crisis. Sample topics include:

  • How to stay focused on what matters most among competing demands and distractions until success is attained
  • How to make principled decisions when faced with tremendous pressure by outside forces
  • How to take personal responsibility for making tough decisions that may negatively affect some individuals or groups
  • How to put leadership mistakes in perspective and move beyond them
